The Photographer Series tells the stories behind some of skateboardings most epic images and the dudes who made them.

About photographer:

Jonathan Mehring is an award winning photographer born and raised incentral Virginia. He discovered his passion for the medium at an early age, photographing his friends skateboarding and playing music. Deciding to pursue his interests, Mehring enrolled in the photography department at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he earned a BFA in Communication Arts and Design.


He was the first of his class to be published, completing stories forThrasher and Slap magazines even before graduating. Since then his work has taken him to over 30 different countries around the world.

 He has been published in national and international magazines including Rolling Stone, Spin, Skateboarder, Thrasher, Monster Children, Slap and Kingpin. He has exhibited his photographs at galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Paris,Sydney, Holland, Germany, Hawaii, and Virginia. Commercial clients include Nike, Converse, Levis, Quiksilver, Vans, Burton, RVCA, and Redbull.

Additionally, he conducted a seminar on photography at the Pittsburgh Filmmakers Academy during the summer of 2006, and on several occasions has lectured VCU students about professional photography.

Awards and Achievements:

  • August 2009: 1st Place in the Rotterdam Grand Prix of Skateboarding International Photography Contest.
  • October 2011: Honorable Mention in the Photography Masters Cup International Color Awards for Americana and Sport.
  • January 2013: Listed as one of ESPN’s Top 10 Most Influential People in Skateboarding.

He currently works and resides in New York City.
