Yann Chatelin is a painter and urban calligrapher, specialized in painting large scales and composed sizes. Yann evolved from graffiti writing to traditional painting mediums including acrylic and Chinese ink. He then swopped his spray cans for the Persian calligraphy bamboo pen, the Qalam Ney. Yann currently lives in Morocco and has worked with Arabic lettering for the last 6 years, deconstructing and reinventing its curves and lines. He also had numerous exhibitions in Marrakech and Casablanca.
Alexandre Dupeyron is a photographer and light painter. He has traveled the world for the past 6 years using his camera lens to capture the essence of each cityscape he encountered. Light painting, however, is his chosen artistic expression. Alexandre arrived in Singapore in 2010 and expanded his practice photographing Asiatic culture. This led to his fascination with the beauty and forms of Chinese sinographs. Alexandre's eye for composition and his sensitivity to an ever-changing environment earned him exhibitions in many places. He exhibited most notably a large work on the Darfur conflict in Sudan at The European Council (2006) and The World Centre for Peace in Verdun, France (2007).
Both artists strived to achieve perfect synergy in order to be inspired by, and to react to, the elements of their specific environment. This is the convergence of more than four years of experimentation and exploration as they continue to realize their artistic visions.

On October 23rd Cameratools (Apeldoorn) and CameraNu (Urk) joined forces to organize a huge Strobist Festival at the old 'Touwen fabriek' in Apeldoorn.
A group of well known Strobist Photographers gave six workshops during seven hours. Each of them demonstrating a different part of the discipline.
This movie is an impression of that event.

There's no thought in the lighting style here, but wanted to show what the power output was like. Fronts were at 1/4 power (dimmable by 4 switches), one rear light was at full power.
Camera 1/60th F/2.2 ISO 250 and still plenty of unused power left in the lights.

Today, I got to assist David Hobby of Strobist fame again so here's another little behind the scenes video. The last video was with my iPhone 3Gs. Since then, I've stepped up to the new Nikon D7000. I've got a steep learning curve when it comes to photos, and it's even worse with video. So if you have any comments, go easy on me.
Again, David has that easy going conversational tone about him when he interacts with people. They're at ease, they're relaxed; he gets the photo.
With the camera I had the ISO set to auto with a top end of 3200. You'll see in the video it adjusts from ISO 200 to 3200 rather quickly. As you may or may not know, it has full time auto focus and can prioritize faces while doing this.
I have one ding (major/minor? I dunno yet) when shooting video on this camera. The microphone is very sensitive. Near the end of the video (3:40) when the auto focus starts to hunt, the microphone picks up this sound from the camera. I don't know how big an issue that will be in the long run. But, in this video, you can hear it's pretty loud. You heard it here first. Although if you're doing serious video you're probably using an external mic or laying sound over top of the video.

This is my first attempt at light painting. Myself and a fellow photographer worked 4-5 hours in the dark, lighting each piece of the tractor, ground, and trees separately. We also lit each other and put those in there. After about 4 hours post production, I got a nice final image.

This is my first attempt at light painting. Myself and a fellow photographer worked 4-5 hours in the dark, lighting each piece of the tractor, ground, and trees separately. We also lit each other and put those in there. After about 4 hours post production, I got a nice final image.

Back in April I was asked to shoot the new Saskatchewan Roughriders Cheerleader's calendar. The club wasn’t interested in producing a provocative calendar, so we decided to create a series of images focussed on the physical strength of the cheer team.

This is from a photo shoot we did on an abandoned farm in Leonardtown. Josie deserves a special thanks for enduing a cold autumn day in just her birthday suit.
Shot on a Rebel T2i with a Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime and a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8. Edited in FCP and Color. I converted the files to Pro Res with Rarevision's "5D to RGB" software (rarevision.com/5dtorgb/).

For the dutch glamour/car magazine Avanti/Autovisie I was asked to do a fashion-shoot. All the models in the photoshoot/video are clients of the Dutch clothingline called SheSuit. The idea for this shoot was that these ladies are succesfully business women, all wear the same brand clothes and drive a nice car.
In this video you can get an impression of the photoshoot. The pictures can been seen in the new Avanti magazine, which will be in the stores from December in The Netherlands.

Balancing and leveling the Steadicam "Merlin" can be a very time consuming task.
If you balance it bottom heavy, you just need a few seconds to level the thingy,
but you´ll also get fed up with the permanently tumbling.
Balancing it as perfect as possible needs a lot of patience and therefore
either strong arms or some little helpers.
I had a great idea to connect my merlin to a Seagull shouldermount,
which is super easy and effective as hell:)
