Shutter Speed for DSLR video still controls the amount of light being let in but it also controls the "cinematic" feel and look of your final product.

You will notice at lower shutter speeds you have a smoother look whereas with faster shutter speeds it's more jerky. This is one of those rules that many people follow but from time to time you can break it to get a unique look in your videos.
