Robert Doisneau was one of the world's best-known street photographers and with Henri Cartier-Bresson a pioneer of photojournalism. His work represents the "humanistic" school of photography.

He captured the poetry of everyday life on the streets of Paris, where in 1950 he created his most iconic image "Kiss by the Hôtel de Ville". In 2005 an original print of this picture, with his signature and stamp,  was sold for €155,000.When he died in 1994, he left behind 450,000 negatives.
