In this week's episode, Mark Denney discusses how metering modes can affect your exposure. Metering modes are one of those often overlooked aspects of photography. It wasn't until a few years into his career that he fully understood their purpose. And, as with most things in photography, there are many different metering modes to choose from: Matrix, Center, Spot, Highlight, depending on what you're photographing. In this video, he will guide you through a hands-on approach that will help you decide which metering mode is best suited for your genre of photography.

My passion for landscape photography has grown from my love of the great outdoors. The serenity and therapeutic nature are perhaps what I enjoy most about it. I treasure the complete process that landscape photography requires, from the on-location aspect of actually traveling and taking the image to the post processing workflow of Lightroom and Photoshop.  Let's Get Connected: markdenneyphotography.com |  Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | ðŸŒŸ 2024 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE🔘 https://geni.us/markdenneyworkshops

The matrix metering, especially in Nikons, who invented the concept is significantly more complex nowadays. It takes colour and the actual scene in the viewfinder, compares it with a database of "scene scenarios" and adapts exposure to match. While the 18% grey is still a decent approximation in evaluating lighting, the good old days of using it as a rule in cameras meters are long gone.
