Just can't agree with the basic premise of this. I've been a creative photographer for about 50 years, having studied under Minor White. Photos don't have to have audience appeal, a message or an obvious story to be worthy. In fact, as my work has matured I've moved almost entirely away from the rules, preferring to concentrate on my vision and journey. Maybe I'll never win an award, but I don't care. If the viewer can't be bothered to invest the time to allow an image to take them somewhere new, it's not my problem. The whole notion of beginner is losing meaning to me; even my 9 year old granddaughter has a visual talent, as represented in her images. The onus is on the audience to abandon convention and allow even a simple image to trigger a worthwhile experience.
