By using this metering mode, you create a file with maximum recovery potential, ensuring your most critical data—the bright, vibrant colors of a sky—remains intact for post-processing.

This specialized metering mode is a game-changer in specific, high-contrast settings:

  • Sunrises and Sunsets: The most obvious application. It allows you to confidently shoot fast-moving light without constantly checking the histogram or adjusting exposure compensation.
  • Snow and Reflective Water: It prevents highly reflective white surfaces from becoming textureless white blocks, ensuring that bright subjects retain their form and detail.
