Ansel Easton Adams (1902 - 1984) was a visionary figure in the world of nature photography and wilderness preservation. His signature black and white photographs inspire a love of the beauty of nature and a strong conservation ethic.

Adams once said "A good photograph is knowing where to stand." Here he is, standing in the right place:

During his life he was criticized for photographing rocks while the world was falling apart. Adams responded by suggesting that "the understanding of the world of nature will help in holding the world of man together."

THE CONTEST

Go out and find beauty and creativity in the great world around you. We will showcase the most impressive entries and reward the very best!

Create black and white nature photographs in the style of Ansel Adams.

THE GRAND JURY

Peter Essick has been a frequent contributor to National Geographic magazine for 25 years. He is a World Press Photo Award winner and his photographs have featured in Time Magazine’s Great Images of the 20th Century and in the 100 Best Photographs of National Geographic.
