Adobe Lightroom’s 14.3 update introduces a game-changing feature for landscape photographers: automated landscape masking. This update significantly streamlines the editing process by using AI to intelligently recognize and isolate key features in landscape photos.

1. What is the New Landscape Masking Feature?

The landscape masking tool automatically identifies and segments distinct parts of a landscape photo—such as the sky, mountains, water, vegetation, and even architecture. This allows for precise, area-specific adjustments without the need for time-consuming manual masking.

2. Why It Matters

Previously, users had to manually build masks or duplicate and invert them to isolate different photo regions. This new tool eliminates that repetitive work, enabling faster and more consistent editing, especially useful when working with batches of images.

3. How It Works

When editing in Develop mode, users can click the new “Landscape” option under the masking menu. Lightroom then analyzes the image and suggests separate masks tailored to that particular scene. Each suggestion can be toggled on or off and modified individually.

Examples of Detected Features:
  • Sky
  • Water
  • Mountains
  • Architecture (e.g., buildings or churches)
  • Vegetation

Conclusion

This update marks a significant leap in Lightroom’s evolution, offering smarter, context-aware editing tools that cater directly to landscape photographers. By automating complex tasks, it not only boosts efficiency but also enhances creative control.

My passion for landscape photography has grown from my love of the great outdoors. The serenity and therapeutic nature are perhaps what I enjoy most about it. I treasure the complete process that landscape photography requires, from the on-location aspect of actually traveling and taking the image to the post processing workflow of Lightroom and Photoshop.  Let's Get Connected: markdenneyphotography.com |  Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | ðŸŒŸ 2024 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE🔘 https://geni.us/markdenneyworkshops
