Why You Should Always Keep a Piece of Black Paper in Your Camera Bag
Great photography gear doesn’t have to cost a fortune. In fact, one of the most versatile and indispensable tools in any professional arsenal takes up zero space in a camera bag and costs next to nothing: a simple sheet of black paper.
Combined with everyday items like rubber bands or adhesive putty, this modest material solves complex creative hurdles on the fly.
Practical Studio Advice: Choose a black card or construction paper that is matte and moderately pliable; if the paper is too rigid, it becomes difficult to fold or wrap securely around speedlights and lenses. Keep a few pre-cut strips tucked flat against the back panel of your camera bag alongside a pack of rubber bands—you may not use them on every assignment, but they will eventually save a critical shot.
