 Dear readers, this is our first collaboration with a profesional photographer, Shane O'Neill, who has kindly agreed to write about TinType.

About Shane, he moved from Dublin to San Francisco in 1995 right after finishing Art College and he did not back.

Shane has been working for clients like Microsoft or American Express.

I talk with him by mail and he wants to explain more details about this video:



The video features a BTS of a Tintype shoot.


Tintype or wet Plate photography is a process that pre dates film around 1870's it was used.


I fell in love with this process when polaroid went away.


I try ignore the fact thats its an antique technique & keep my images as modern as possible with my choice of models and hair make up and styling.


And of course lighting.

NIke Victory campaign

As a very familiar brand of shoes you ask for an online movie to make you think there about a half a second about it. And then you start. That was in 2008, just before the European Championships in Switzerland and Austria. Mokummercials (the predecessor of Awesome) made a bold 'behind the scenes' montage of the Nike European Football Victory campaign.
Those were so pleased that in early 2010 a new, larger task came. A behind the scenes film for the Write The Future for the World Cup campaign. Plus, a locally made movie teaser. Awesome.

This is a short 'behind the scenes' video shot in my studio covering the process behind a 1-day product shoot.

The products themselves were small USB computer accessories and the brief was to produce clean images with a plain background which could be used in pack-shots, on the client's web-site and in general marketing materials.

The time-lapse portion was captured using a Nikon D300s and intervalometer and the screen-grabs were captured using ScreenFlow.

My main goal was to built a steadycam for DSLRs that is as small as possible, fully adjustible, lightweight but still very strong. As you can see in the video above it is adjustible just like all the other models. But there are some more facts that I would like to point out. I used a high quality universal joint which is very agile and therefore the movement is compensated very effective. The handle is very soft and big which makes it possible to carry this thing around a while. The steadycam is made out of aluminum and therefore it's very lightweight. The weights are made out of brass. It is possible to loosen and tighten all the screws without any additional tools. This makes it possible to make quick adjustments when changing lenses or adding other equipment. It can carry my 550D wit a LED video light or other DSLRs with medium sized lenses easily. The first test runs went pretty well - I will upload a video as soon as the sun comes out.

Meet Carl Warner, the photographer and artist behind Foodscapes - a self-taught, awe-inspiring art form constructed entirely out of food.

When Carl looks at food he see possibilities. To him, broccoli are miniature trees that can create vast forests of connected treetops. To him, Italian parmesan cheese wheels are rugged, plunging cliffs. To him, smoked salmon is the lapping water at sunset reflecting the blazing colors of the sky. In a sense, he's just a big kid playing with his food, a man making "glorified flower arrangements". Yet, he's more than that. He's an artist. An artist that makes you think about food and interact with food on a different level, on a level that captures our fondness for illusions and brain teasers and fairy tales all at once.
