Dear readers. We are on the beach to take a rest that we need. We will back with force the next 1st september. Meanwhile we will post some instagram pictures. You can follow us on twitter.com:
Lets face it, photographers are everywhere. The cameras are so
incredible now days that it's easy to think that we can run a fantastic
business, take amazing photos, and charge pennies for hard work. It's
so easy to follow the trends of what "the other guy" is doing and we
lose focus on learning simple business tactics or expanding our
creativity. Outside the Softbox is an educational discussion or
tutorial with various artists that help us all think "outside the box"
when dealing with our photos, creative light or our photography
business.
This week we'll hear from the Tri-Digital Group. Greg
Sims, Jim Armstrong and Matt Hagler are known for their large
commercial clients with over 20 years of experience in the industry,
plus their zany personality of experimentation with all of their shoots.
This week, Greg helps us think "outside the box" for shooting a
product shoot. Usually it takes numerous lights to get a perfectly lit
product shot. But today, Matt uses reflectors to portray a fantastic
commercial shot of a North 44 Vodka bottle.

Pocket and Trade books are now available from Blurb in color.
Printed on white uncoated paper these little gems open up a new world of possibilities - from sketch books, to notebooks, from annual reports to mini photographic portfolios.
See why Dan Milnor [@Smogranch], Blurb's photographer at large is so excited about this new format and what it means for his photography.
Hey Gary, "Why did you freeze a bunch of things in blocks of ice and then take pictures of it?"
Each item in this series is an object that represents a secret held by the person who lent it to me to photograph. But I'm not interested in people's secrets. Asking for an object that represented a secret was just a way in.
These images are an attempt at creating portraits of the various selves within each of us. Like the side of you that might be broken. The side of you that always gets the urge to run. Or maybe the side of you that is perpetually in love. ( read more here..)
I got a last minute invite from Chip McAlpine to join him on his photo trip to Crater Lake National Park to shoot stars.
This was certainly a demanding trip in all aspects: before/during/after, financially, and relationships. But, damn, the results are one of my favorite so far from the years I've been shooting stars.

Global National Story by Crystal Goomansingh and Kurt Brownridge
Original Airdate: July 22, 2011
In a baby picture that documents Nick Onken's first encounter with photography, he's holding a Kodak 110 Instamatic. Upside down. Not taking a photo. Probably trying to get it in his mouth or balance it on top of something. Though, the thing did look like a building block, give the kid a break. He was only 3. And the sun was in his eyes.
Obviously, this wasn't a moment of clarity for Nick that the camera was his tool for creation. It wasn't until 20 some years later that he actually put it to use.
After developing a passion for art, Nick became a graphic designer and spent five years graphically designing things. And it was cool. And it went well. But when he started taking photos for a couple of his clients he got noticed and decided to get serious. So he took the camera out of his mouth and started pushing the button. A lot.
Today, after shooting for clients like Nike, State Farm Insurance, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and Lamborghini, Nick is quickly spreading his philosophy of photography.
A big believer in living in the moment, his photos follow suit. With a designer's eye, he's constantly searching for that perfect moment to tell the whole story. And the pursuit of these moments has taken him around the world. His love of travel has recently collided with his career and he's published his first book, Photo Trekking. It's also moved him from Los Angeles to New York City this year, abandoning the beautiful weather and tropical views in favor of subway lunatics and urban skylarking. The latter of which obviously lead to more interesting moments. You'll never catch a palm tree doing back flips on a crowded train.
Many photographers are self-taught, and others learn from the best. And this photographer, is one of the best. Why? Because he has found his voice and followed his passion. Because of that, he was a large piece of what many of us use today...Adobe Photoshop. He is sought after by celebrities to spread his wisdom, was featured on TEDx, he teaches on the great resource of Lynda.com, and is currently changing lives one student at a time.
Chris Orwig brings passion to all that he does. He has an insatiable knack for creativity and discovery. Chris is a celebrated photographer, author, speaker, interactive designer and on the faculty of Brooks Institute of Photography is Santa Barbara, CA. His work is widely sought after and enjoys a diverse client base including professional surfers, musicians, artists, etc.
In fact, many of our [FRAMED] artists have attended Brooks Institute and have told us the incredible influence that Orwig has had on their work, their art, their vision, and most importantly, their lives.
Join him today as he gives us a tour of Brooks, shoot some film, speaks inspiration and even gives a sneak into his skills on Lightroom and Photoshop.
