I trust Mr Harvey means this ENTIRELY to be silly.

Rio is my favorite city, but it IS dangerous. A 'locking' belt around your waist doesn't prevent three knife-wielding, glue-huffing kids from demanding you 'unlock' your case. And, attempting an Austin Powers-ish judo flip is unwise against whatever weapon your mugger(s) carry.

It's simply not advised to carry any kind of valuable property Exposed when in Rio, and certainly not a case-full of it. If you're going to carry a camera, keep it concealed until you actually use it, then put it away. And, definitely do NOT carry an actual camera case. Put it in a cheap, worn, ugly, simple backpack or plastic store bag. Seriously.
